Satisfying conclusion to a good trilogy

Vampires and werewolves are so last year. Nowadays, angels and demons appear to have dominated YA bookshelves, from Laini Taylor's "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" to Susan Ee's "Penryn and the End of Days" series. One of the most thrilling paranormal series I've read in a while is L.A. Weatherly's "Angel" trilogy, which is chock full of romance, action and excitement--what more could you ask for? "Angel Fever" is the climactic finale to the series, whisking us away for one last angel-butt-kicking adventure.

Things don't seem good for the Angel Killers. Millions of people live in Edens, "refugee" camps set up by the angels who use them as feeding grounds. Raziel is more powerful than ever, tightening his hold on angels and humans alike. Yet in the face of these hellish odds, Willow and Alex aren't giving up, recruiting and training new Angel Killers for the perfect moment to strike the angels and rid humanity of the parasitic creatures forever. But when a game-changing revelation sends Alex on a separate journey, one that leaves Willow bereft and confused, each of them must face the consequences of their own choices. With the end of the celestial battle drawing near, the stakes are higher than ever--but will love and humanity survive?

Clearly one of the most important things an author must do when writing the final book of a series is wrap things up, tie loose ends and leave nothing dangling--yet, at the same time, keep things fresh and exciting, so it's not all about checking off the things that had been built up in the previous books. I think Ms. Weatherly does a great job with this in the storyline of "Angel Fever," giving her readers a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy while maintaining the excitement until the very end. She does this by introducing new challenges and revelations for Alex and Willow, allowing for the developments of both the plot and the characters. I especially loved seeing more of Willow's mom, since she'd kind of been a rather quite character in the first two books. That being said, however, I do think that the middle parts of the novel were a little too static in terms of the storyline, but luckily not enough to make me lose interest completely and yawn and stuff my Kindle under the covers. Another thing that strikes me in retrospect was that the storyline was a tad bit predictable. I mean, it's quite obvious that Alex won't die--it was just a matter of when he was going to pop back up. Another example is how Willow saved the world (again, this much is obvious). Okay, maybe it wasn't predictable, but it wasn't as dramatic as it could be. Other than that, though, a definitely satisfying conclusion!

Moving on to the characters in "Angel Fever." Let's start off with Willow. As the heroine of the novel, I think Willow's a pretty good protagonist in that she's not the whiny, annoying type. Instead, she takes matters into her own hands, and, on a more personal level, finally completely accepts her identity as a half-angel. What's more, I found that I kind of respected Willow in the novel. Even when she's dealing with confusion and heartbreak in the aftermath of Alex's supposed death, Willow remains honest with herself for the most part, and I found myself going "you go girl" with the way she handled Alex's reappearance. As for Alex, I had pretty conflicting feelings for him. Sure, his love for Willow is clear and sweet without being overly cloying, but he was kind of a coward, breaking a pretty important promise to Willow, which made me question just how much he trusted her as an equal in their relationship. But I suppose the plot wouldn't have been as exciting or emotionally driven if it hadn't been for his jerk move. So I guess you're off the hook, Alex.

The rest of the characters were fairly great as well. Seb is a pretty likable guy, and his unrequited love for Willow makes him a sympathetic character. I'm glad Ms. Weatherly gave him a happy ending though, because, I mean, it's about time! Raziel, in my opinion, was just an okay bad guy. Yeah, he's undeniably evil and cruel and all that, but I felt like he was just that--evil and cruel. Nothing more. He does seem to show some kind of longing or nostalgia for Miranda, Willow's mom, but not enough to make him become one of those bad guys you sort of empathize with. All I'm saying is that he could've been a much more interesting antagonist had be had more dimension to him. Speaking of Miranda, I really found her character interesting to read about, as I'd said before, since she'd been a side character for the first two books. I just wish we had seen more of her, maybe through more interaction with Willow.

All in all, Ms. Weatherly fulfills her readers' expectations for a good conclusion to her "Angel" trilogy, giving us an exciting storyline and dynamic protagonists. I'd recommend this series for anyone looking for a fun, celestial read--it's worth it!

Good ending

This series will never be considered classic literature, but the characters are interesting. The Kindle version has far fewer errors than some other books I've read. Everything isn't tied up in a nice neat bow at the end, but main conflicts are resolved and there is a feeling of hope. I liked that. It made the story seem more realistic. My only complaint is the same as it is with many YA novels. It is ridiculous that the main characters meet, fall in "love," and stay together hypothetically forever when they are meeting at such a young age. I find that harder to swallow than the idea of creepy angels attacking humankind.

This bookseries is one of the best series i've read. This book is the last of the series and i still love it because it keeps on suprising, is funny, sad and exciting. The way the story is told from different perspectives is what i absolutely love the most of this series. The bonds between the 3 main characters is also beautifully described.

... How come the Wild West is so ...calm in this novel, you ask? Simple. Dexter chooses Charlie Utter as the central character, Bill Hickok's stoic, aloof partner, and it is he and his restrained wit that serves as backbone to this wonderful novel.

The book is split into four parts: Bill, The China Doll (a beautiful Chinese ..), Agnes (Lake, Bill's wife), and Jane (Calamity). Bill is gone by the end of his section, which surprised me because I thought this book was about Wild Bill. It is and it isn't. He isn't physically around after the first part, but his legend is everywhere, and it runs through the book.

I've read Paris Trout and Brotherly Love from Pete Dexter before, and enjoyed this one the most, for it is the funniest. Sometimes it's ha-ha funny; other times it's more reflective. It's a fine book, one that makes me wish Dexter will go back to novel writing soon.

Pete Dexter's Best?

If you're a fan of Pete Dexter you've no doubt read everything the man has written. However, if you are unfamiliar with this superb writer and in dire need of something with more substance than your average N.Y Times bestseller list fare, please jump in. Regardless of whether you're a "western" aficinado or not this is a stunning work. Mr. Dexter's abilities with language and character place him in the highest echelon of current authors. If someone (Mr. D.?) could lovingly transcribe this into a multi-part television movie a la "Lonesome Dove" I could die happy.

Deadwood

Pete Dexter's Deadwood hews closely to historical reality. The characters are there from the well-known Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane Cannary to the lesser known but vital Charlie Utter, Hickok's widow, Agnes Lake, the China Doll, and a host of others. The events are there from the murder of Hickok to the great Deadwood fire. Are the characters drawn accurately? It seems so - certainly more accurately than the HBO series of the same name (You won't find HBO's Al Swearengen in Dexter's pages).

Much of the book is taken up with tortured internal dialogues, especially of Hitchcock's buddy Charlie Utter. Many of the characters are at least half insane and in poor Jane's case, well over half. Cruelty is the rule not the exception. Dexter's `Deadwood' is an unhappy place.

By the way, according to a story from the Rapid City Journal newspaper posted on the web page `Deadwood Discovered, the HBO series is not based on Dexter's book and Dexter says he does not watch the show - his loss in my opinion.

Highly recommended.

Alfred L. Ivry is professor emeritus in the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University. This Book Teaches Problem Solving

I read some of the reviews here of the book and the ones from those who give it 3 stars or less and have something negative to say don't understand one thing - Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles are writing in the perspective of ideas, not necessarily business and how to make money from it. Having a business where we are in service to others, it's essential that we learn and understand how to please our customers so they keep coming back. It's marketing - it's the way we showcase and present ourselves to the public. I read the book, and I am taking in each of the points both authors discuss to come up with my own ideas of how to make my own clients in my hypnotherapy and coaching practice, raving fans. Yes, some of the points seem to be far fetched - I have never seen valets who park your car for you in grocery stores, at least, not one here in LA yet. I think it would actually be a neat idea for grocery stores to have their employees assist customers to their cars if they have heavy groceries without the customer having to ask if they could get help to load the groceries in the car. Anyhow, the ideas are that if we want people to come to our business, to receive our products and services, we need to be able to give something to them that makes us unique. And from the viewpoint of this book that I've seen as I read it, I see that this book actually has a lot of value by giving us ample ideas on how to create more customers, and make them so happy that they want to keep coming back and keep on telling others about us as businesses. I know if I get excellent service from somewhere, I will always keep coming back there no matter how far it is located or if it's the same old boring stuff they serve. While this book may not appeal to everyone, I can see how great of a tool this book can be for anyone who owns their own business and wants customers left and right. This book is an asset for someone who wants to improve on their own services and think about extras that can help solve a customer's problem....after all, that's what this book is teaching us. How to solve the customer's/client's problems quick, and efficiently so that they continue to come back again and again.

I grew up in Asia and in my country you're spoiled and expect servant attitude in every business you conduct with. This is the book that shows just that. It will change your outlook of what customer service is trully all about. I bought this for a co-worker who's been at my new work place for 16 years and I've only been there 2 months and got an increase 3x and is making more than he is. You see, attitude is everything and not even hard work is enough to pull you up there. This book is spot on.

I’m absolutely loving “The Ley Lines trilogy”.

Kate Carson did it again! I’m not exactly a fan of historical romance, but I’m absolutely loving “The Ley Lines trilogy”. As soon as Kate sent me the eARC from “Lost in the Ley Lines”, I‘ve started reading it. It was agonizing the way the first book ended, I needed to know what happened next. And the ending of this book is so much worse than the first one – and I say this in a good way. I’ll die until I get the third and last part of this trilogy.

In this volume, we have a lot more moments of Cian and Millie together. They are such a cute and perfect couple. She’s clearly a XXI century girl, but even though Cian is totally a XIV century man, he has a mind head of his time. He’s a peacemaker; he’s honourable, faithful, has values and respects women. He’s the exact opposite of his older brother, who I despise with all my being.

Abraham is always aside from everything that happens in the story, but that doesn’t mean that he is insignificant – exactly the opposite. He has little power, his son Brice is the chieftain and the one who makes the clan’s decisions. Every time Abraham shows up, he is mostly with Millie. He had to say that she was his bastard daughter so she could remain in the MacAllister’s castle, after some disturbances caused by her. Those moments, between Abraham and Millie, were so sweet, caring and lovely – and a bit funny too. They are totally father and daughter. I like him a lot, he’s like an awesome, funny and wise grandfather.

That ending… I can’t even think about it. How could Kate do something like that? Okay, to be honest, somewhere in the middle of the story I was suspecting something like that was going to happen, but… I still had hope.

This book is so much better than the first one. My feelings were all over the place. I laughed, I cried, I even screamed to some characters. When I finished the book, I was going to rate it 4.5 stars, since it has a better story line than the first one, but something that I loved about the other book, wasn’t so good in this one. I said in my review of “Lass in the Ley Lines” that I loved that I could hear the Scottish accent on the account of the way it was written, but in this volume the author may have gone too far. Sometimes I had to read more than once the same sentence because I couldn’t understand what they were saying. That’s basically the reason why I’m rating this book 4 stars instead of 4.5 starts, even though I think it is way better than the other.

I’m anxiously waiting for the next one!

I want to start by saying…what ending was that??? If it this one was the last book I would be very sad!!! But, and it’s a big BUT, since there’s going to be a third book (and according to the author the waiting won’t be very long – just a few weeks!) I’m going to wait for my happy ending – and if there isn’t one, I’m going to be very sad.

Going back to the review and now more seriously: this is the second book of the series “Ley Lines” and the minute I received I devoured it.

I really like that the author gives a touch of “Scottish writing”, I mean, the way in which it is written tries to show that it’s a Scottish man/woman talking (and you can hear their accent in your mind). However, I think that sometimes it’s a bite forced or maybe I’m just not used to it, because there are passages in the book that are a bit harder to read.

In this book, we met again with Millie, Cian, Isabel and other characters from the XIV century and go right to point in which we had stayed in the last book: waiting for the men to come back from battle. I guess I like Millie: I don’t think I would be able to be quiet and still waiting for the men that were fighting.

In the first book, we know that Millie went back in time because she had to change the faith of two Scottish clans. The question with which we started this book is: did she make it? I suspected she had done it, because there were people going to war that hadn’t gone before, deciding to go because of Millie (and for Millie).

Cian and Millie…they are such a cute and adorable couple! And Cian, even though he fits perfectly in his historical time, he’s different, he doesn’t want to fight. He a peacemaker, he just wanted to take care of his family and his home and his cattle.

This book has a little more violence – and it concerns a very important topic: domestic violence. I liked that the author showed the two sides (those who pay attention and act on it and those who just looked away) because, let’s face it: if it didn’t show that people avoided paying attention to what appended (in this case to a woman) – and still do!- especially in the historical time in which this story happens, I would have said that it didn’t showed the reality.

I really liked that in this book Isabel showed a braver side of herself, acting and not just being the obedient daughter that people wanted her to be.
Abraham is great character, although he doesn’t participate very much in the books. It was this man who took Millie to the XIV century, and he’s the one that helps and protects her. I’m just going to say that we have very sweet moments between this gentleman and Millie in this second book.
Just to finish up, it’s a quick and small book that I wished it was bigger, and that left me with tears in my eyes at certain moments.

Great story but I liked the first installment better

Great story but I liked the first installment better. Not as steamy as the outlander series but still romance to be had. It does get tiresome with the clan dramas but it needs to be there. I would read it again and need to get the final installment.

About the Author

Arthur O'Sullivan is a professor of economics at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. After receiving his B.S. in economics at the University of Oregon, he spent two years in the Peace Corps, working with city planners in the Philippines. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University in 1981 and has taught at the University of California, Davis, and Oregon State University, winning several teaching awards at both schools. He recently accepted an endowed professorship at Lewis and Clark College, where he teaches microeconomics and urban economics. He is the author of the best-selling textbook, Urban Economics, currently in its sixth edition. Professor O'Sullivan's research explores economic issues concerning urban land use, environmental protection, and public policy. His articles have appeared in many economics journals, including the Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, National Tax Journal, Journal of Public Economics, and Journal of Law and Economics. Professor O'Sullivan lives with his family in Lake Oswego, Oregon. For recreation, he enjoys hiking, boogie-boarding, paragliding, and squash.

Steven M. Sheffrin is dean of the division of social sciences and professor of economics at the University of California, Davis. He has been a visiting professor at Princeton University,

Oxford University, and the London School of Economics and has served as a financial economist with the Office of Tax Analysis of the United States Department of Treasury. He has been on the faculty of the University of California, Davis, since 1976 and has served as the chairman of the department of economics. He received his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Sheffrin is the author of 10 other books and monographs and over 100 articles in the fields of macroeconomics, public finance, and international economics. His most recent books include Rational Expectations (second edition) and Property Taxes and Tax Revolts: The Legacy of Proposition 13 (with Arthur O'Sullivan and Terri Sexton). Professor Sheffrin has taught macroeconomics at all levels, from large introduction to principles classes (enrollments of 400) to graduate classes for doctoral students. He is the recipient of the Thomas Mayer Distinguished Teaching Award in economics.� He lives with his wife Anjali (also an economist) in Davis, California, and has two daughters who have studied economics. In addition to a passion for current affairs and travel, he plays a tough game of tennis.

Stephen Perez is chair of the economics department at California State University, Sacramento. After receiving his B.A. in economics at the University of California, San Diego, he received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Davis, in 1994. He taught economics at Virginia Commonwealth University and Washington State University before coming to California State University, Sacramento, in 2001. He teaches macroeconomics at all levels as well as econometrics, sports economics, labor economics, and mathematics for economists.� Professor Perez's research explores most macroeconomic topics. In particular, he is interested in evaluating the ability of econometric techniques to discover the truth, issues of causality in macroeconomics, and sports economics. His articles have appeared in many economics journals, including the Journal of Monetary Economics, Econometrics Journal, Economics Letters, Journal of Economic Methodology, Public Finance and Management, Journal of Economics and Business, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, Applied Economics, and Journal of Macroeconomics.

The newest edition of this (with very little changed between those editions) was about $170. This copy was about $5 including shipping, if I'm remember correctly, and contains everything I need to do well in the class.

Great buy

This book is very efficient and has served as a great source. It is very time friendly and easy to understand. Each chapter has applications and there are multiple appendixs within the book which go beyond the chapter to explain each aspect of the chapter in more detail. The only down side to this book would be that it is not hard cover and the text may be too small for some readers.

I was so pleased that the book came with the access code! My teacher required the code to access MyEconLab, and it is virtually impossible to find a used book with the access code unopened. The book was in great condition as well, and came promptly.

Whether one is a tourist, amateur historian, or just a fan of documentary film, this presentation is highly interesting

I'm thoroughly impressed with this video lecture. The European history which I knew in outline form is brought to life in this video. I'm now on episode 6 and look forward to seeing more.
To begin with, I appreciate the dramatic history of early Lithuania. A land of heroes, the country faced long odds and powerful rivals on its western and eastern borders. On its west, Lithuania and the coastal region of Zemaitija was being overrun by a rogue order of Teutonic Knights, and on its east the Tatars or Mongols had conquered Ukraine. Amazingly, the Lithuanian tribes united, formed the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and liberated both western and eastern regions from oppression. This is all told in vivid detail, in a way that only the best professors do well.
The speaker moves swiftly through a range of geography and time. Whether you are continuing research about Eastern Europe or looking for new jumping off points in one's learning this video series is a hit.
