A Delightful Christmas Book

This is a delightful book. I had forgotten that it is summer time in Australia at Christmas and so quite different in weather from here in the States, but Boreham's Christmas stories make wonderful reading regardless of the weather. I am grateful for the reprint of this book by John Broadbanks Publishing. I had always wanted a copy to read.

I think I have read this book four times.

This book kicks butt. I have been digging around every year for the best Christmas stuff and studies on the Incarnation. I love Christmas hymns, and Dickens' Christmas Carol is remarkable. But if you want some sermon-stories so that you can just seize a few minutes to think about Jesus, Boreham is the man to go to.
- The stories are so fun that they are worth reading any time of the year.
- They are not really sermons or Bible studies per se. Boreham was a preacher but his writing is quite leisurely. Perfect for Christmas and family time.
- He captures Christmas. In not all, but many of these quick essays, he talks about the meaning and function of the Incarnation in a way that will blow your stockings off.
Ravi Zacharias was right—Boreham was not really a profound "preacher", in terms of expository study and all that. But to F. W. Boreham, everything preached. I have read essays on wet paint, village grass, and dominos, and I have never been disappointed. He will lead you to the feet of Jesus over and over if you take some time for his books. My Christmas Book is among the best examples, and Billy Graham recommended buying and reading everything that Boreham had written.

I find myself pulling this book from my shell, not only during the Christmas season, but all year long. No one writes like Boreham. His story on "How Christmas Came to Roaring Camp" is one of my all-time favorite essays. His introduction is also something that should not be missed. Leave it to FWB to encapsulate in a few sentences what so many of us struggle to express in paragraphs! I am purchasing multiple copies to give away as presents this holiday season.
